Durga Ashtami-Opportune time. to defeat your demons.

Goddess Durga defeats your demons. The 8th Moon of Navratri is the time most powerful to have your demons destroyed. 8th Moons are a time to unleash your inner strength and resolve to crush evil, and this 8th Moon, as mythology unfolds, is a particularly opportune time.

'Evil' is used here to define anything that is not god or goddess-like; anything not pure or positive; anything that is negative from within, self doubt or fear or anything negative from external sources like jealously, anger or manipulation by others.

Durga Ashtami marks the 8th day of Navratri at midnight, when Mata Durga gained the final burst of her power in order to defeat the demon king. The 9th day of Navratri is the day he was defeated and on the 10th day is when the defeat is celebrated.

As the story goes...

Mahishasura, a demon king, worshipped Lord Shiva with utmost devotion and sincerity and was granted the boon of eternity. The only hook to the boon was that Mahishasura could meet his demise at the hand of a female. This was fine for him as he thought himself far superior to any feminine power even before the boon.

Thinking himself as indestructible, he started to harass the entire world killing the innocent people including saints. He eventually even attacked 'Swarga Loka' or Heaven. People and gods alike prayed to Trimurthi- Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva- to get rid of the demon. The three supreme gods united their supreme, extreme powers and created a divine energy called Durga Mata or Shakti, the Warrior Goddess.

The moment that Mahishasura cast his eyes on the newly created Goddess he was mesmerized by her unparalleled beauty. He lost all of his senses and asked her to marry him. She agreed to marry him under one condition: if he could beat her in a fight she would give the final consent. Mahishasura accepted the condition thinking that no feminine power could possibly beat him.

Mahishasura couldn't believe that this 'woman' was so powerful and tenacious as the fight continued for 7 hard days. He was growing tired and on the 8th day, or 8th Moon she gathered more strength and power so that he weakened considerably. On the next day, after 9 days of fighting, the demon fell in defeat. Durga drew her sword and cut off his head.

Durga Ashtami Puja

On Durgaashtami day, Saptamatrika's, Ashtamatrika's and 64 Yoginis are worshiped. Ashtamatrika puja during Navrati si most fruitful observance as per Yoagis, Sdhakas and great seers. Mahagauri is the most revered Navdurga Goddess and is worshiped on Durgaashtmi Day!

There is an another aspect of Durga called Vana Durga. She is the Durga of the mountains. She is in the battle ready position wielding 8 different weapons to fight and vanquish the demons. Her right foot is seen stepping on the severed head of a defeated demon, her left foot is raised and stepping on an ox which is a demon in disguise, 7 weapons are above her in ready position as her 8th weapon, the trident, is in ready position to pierce the ox demon.

The 8th Moon night or the 8th Night of Navratri, is a powerful night to gain strength and power/shakti over your enemies and demons by performing Demon Slaying Power Ritual that includes a fire ritual, abishekam and pooja to the Goddess Durga....
